CARBINE. Cal. 30-06. S# 402450. Bbl. 22". Model 1895 lever action saddle ring carbine mfg. by Winchester in 1921. The left side of the bbl. is marked "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER", followed by ".30 GOV'T-'06". Left side of the receiver is marked with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information, with ".30/ GOV./ '06." marked over the top of the chamber. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Single band fastened finger grooved wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with steel carbine trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rods absent). Handguard is absent. Left side of handguard exhibits 4 carved "kill notches" above a carved boxed "H.A.F.". Pinned Lyman blade front sight. Rear sight assembly is absent. Left side of the receiver features a saddle ring stud and ring. Upper receiver tang exhibits an added screw hole and screw, with the rear tang screw being an improper replacement, which has been filed down at the lower tang. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that have faded to gray and brown patinas, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting overall. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the buttstock exhibiting 2 small cracks at the toe that stem from the buttplate. (26-161/MLW). CURIO. $600-900.
