ARTIC EXPLORER ADMIRAL PEARY. Cal. 35 WCF. S# 46320. Consignor related information attributes this rifle to Admiral Robert Edwin Peary (May 6th, 1856- February 20, 1920). Admiral Peary is renowned for being the first person to reach the geographical North Pole on April 6th of 1909. Bbl. 24" tapered rnd. Ramp mounted blade front sight with a W.F. Sheard 3 folding leaf express rear sight. Blue finish. Original ebony tipped schnabel deluxe forearm with style H factory checkering. Replacement straight grip stock of fine thin shell walnut showing medium brown tones with vivid dark streaking. Stock utilizes original crescent steel buttplate and Winchester sling eye with wrap around hand checkering. Left inside of lower tang is marked with assembly # "5300" followed by "R" and "X" wood grade marking. Unmarked military style leather sling is mounted using original Winchester sling hooks. Forward Winchester sling eye is bbl. mounted. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2 Cody Firearms Museum record checks. 1st records check is dated "4-15-05" and the 2nd check is dated "18 May 2025". Record states "SN applied: 7-21-1904/ Date In: 9-3-1904/ Rifle/ Caliber/Gauge: 35" as well as "Date Shipped: 1-31-1905/ Order #: 1687". This example is also accompanied by an undated receipt for this rifle. A Wikipedia details the history of Admiral Robert Edwin Peary. CONDITION: over 60% lightly faded original blue showing spotted corrosion and handling marks with edge and carry wear. Original forearm shows wear and handling marks with added varnish.
