Cal. 22 Auto. S# 43337. Bbl. 20 1/2". Model 1903 semi-automatic rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1908. Top of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information, with the model and cal. designations marked on the left towards the breech. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with plain blued steel buttplate. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Bbl. features what appears to be a period added threaded adapter, likely for an early (possibly Maxim) silencer attachment. Adapter is complete with a knurled thread protector. Matching numbers are present on the receiver and lower assembly. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a few spots of mild wear fading to gray patina, some areas of thinning fading to brown patina, as well as small scattered spots and patches of light pitting (on receiver). Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting and a few scattered patches of mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and small impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. PROVENANCE: From the Lifetime Collection of Malcolm Zickler, Ret. USAF Lt. Col. (26-710/MLW). CURIO. $500-800.
