SHOTGUN. Cal. 12ga 2 3/4". S# 14481. Grand American Grade shotgun bbls are all marked "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER FOR J. MARTIN BENCHOFF". Blued boxlock action has Grand American style No. 6 engraving w/ gold figures. Right and left side vignettes feature gold pointing dogs. Floorplate depicts gold woodcock and ruffed grouse. Trigger guard bow has a gold portrait of a dog. Bolsters have deep relief Grand American style oak leaf carving. Balance of action has arabesque scroll w/ ornate borders complementary engraving extends for 3" on to breech ends of bbls and forearm irons. Features include gold finished SST, selective ejectors and non-automatic safety. Water tables of the gun and all three bbls along w/ inner surfaces of all forearms have a fine machine jeweled finish. Bbl 1: 26" vent rib w/ fixed IMP CYL and IMP CYL chokes. White front and mid beads. Ebony tipped beavertail forearm measures 9 5/8" to iron. Bbl 2: 28" vent rib w/ fixed MOD and FULL chokes. White front and mid bead. Ebony tipped beavertail forearm measures 9 5/8" to iron. Bbl 3: 32" vent rib. White front and mid beads with fixed FULL chokes. Ebony tipped beavertail forearm measures 11 1/6" to iron. Pistol grip stock of fancy flame grain American walnut has engraved steel grip cap w/ gold Grand American marking and single line border. Name plate on toeline of stock is engraved "JMB". Stock and all three forearms have a style B segmented factory carving w/ fleur de lis highlights. LOP: 14 1/8" over a leather covered pad. DAC: 1 9/16". DAH: 1 3/4". Stock has 5/16" of cast off. Downward pitch 2 1/2". WEIGHT: w/ Bb1 7 lb 6.2 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: folder of documentation w/ this fine shotgun includes letters, correspondence and data sheets. A letter dated Oct. 23, 1975 signed by Bruno Pardee referencing invoicing of Mr. Benchoff's Model 21. Additional letters confirm stock dimensions. Other correspondence w/ Grove Mfg. Co. dated May 28, 1885 references fitting of the Marvin Huey gun case. Gun is housed in an oak and leather Marvin Huey 3bbl set case w/ burgundy felt fitted interior. Lid of case is marked with gold initials "J.M.B." and includes a canvas zipper cover w/ leather trim. CONDITION: action retains 75% original blue showing silvering in carry areas. All bbls retain over 97% original blue showing light muzzle and carry wear. Stock and forearms have lightly worn original finish and checkering showing scattered scratches and marks. Action is tight w/ sound mechanics. All bores are very good and bright. (25-1522/DS). MODERN. $16,000-24,000.
