ACTION TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# G844215. Bbl. 24" of Medium Target Weight. Redfield International Globe front sight w/ Redfield International micrometer receiver front sight. Push feed action w/ jeweled bolt body. Three position safety. Single stage trigger. Blind box mag. International style Monte Carlo cheekpiece stock w/ accessory rail in forearm & sling swivels. LOP: 12 7/8" over a Winchester thin black rifle pad. WEIGHT: 10 lbs, 11.2 oz. S# indicates 1967 mfg. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from Peter C. Jenkins, CMA, "Late in 1980, when Olin Corporation was in the process of selling the Winchester Division to the newly formed U.S. Repeating Arms Co., the company sold off some of its miscellaneous inventory to Olin employees. At the time I was shooting on a rifle team with an engineer from the Winchester Division, and I was working for the Olin Chemicals Research Group which was located across the street from the old Winchester factory. / This engineer, David Lin, told me that the Winchester Custom Shop, which hand built all of their match rifles, had built six Model 70 Army International Match rifles in cal. 30-06 Springfield. The rifle was listed in the catalog as being built only in .308 Win. However, John Brault, who headed the Custom Shop, was certain that someone would want these rifles in his favorite caliber (30-06), so he had his crew build six of them. They never sold, of course, because they were not in the catalog. / These rifles were part of the miscellaneous inventory being sold. Five Winchester engineers bought them, and I bought the sixth one. The belief that only one was ever built in 30-06 Springfield is erroneous, as this rifle proves. This rifle comes with a copy the original bill of sale and original factory instructions. It is extremely accurate, and has less than 500 rounds fired through it.". Additional paperwork includes an invoice dated January 1981 & instructions for trigger & sight adjustment. Housed within a black plastic foam-lined case w/ aluminum trim. Case lid is marked w/ white letters, "WINCHESTER-WESTERN / MARKETING SERVICES DEPARTMENT / NEW HAVEN, CONN.". CONDITION: bbl. & action retain over 98% blue, showing spots of residue around scope attachment holes. Original stock finish shows a few scratches. Bright near excellent bore. (25-889/DS). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
