Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). S# 922615. Bbl. 24" octagon, with sporting front sight and flat top sporting rear sight. Half-length mag. Blue finish. Walnut forearm and straight grip stock, with crescent steel buttplate. Mfg. in 1923. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube retain over 80% lightly faded blue, showing edge wear, with spots of very light pitting. Receiver retains small amounts of blue, with balance fading to silver/gray due to flaking which is common for this time frame. The high nickel content in Winchester receivers manufactured in the late teens and early 20s hindered the long term adherence of bluing to the metal, it is not uncommon to find an example in high original condition in all aspects other than the receiver. Original wood finish shows scattered light scratches and marks. Mechanically fine. Very good bright bore. (25-1749/DS). CURIO. $3,000-4,500.
