LEGENDARY TEXAS LAWMAN ROBERT EDWARD "JACK" BRYANT. Robert Edward "Jack" Bryant,1866-1940, was a Texas Ranger from 1883-1898. During his storied career as a lawman he also served Ysleta, TX Constable, El Paso County Deputy Sheriff, and a Deputy US Marshall 1) WINCHESTER 1873 THIRD MODEL SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44-40. S# 236032B. Bbl. 20" rnd. with standard carbine sights. Full length mag. Action has saddle ring on left side. Band fastened walnut forearm and straight grip stock with steel trapdoor carbine buttplate. Mfg. in 1887. 2) COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 111323. Bbl. 4 3/4" with blade sight. 6-shot fluted cyl. 2-piece checkered hard rubber eagle grips. Black powder frame. Bbl. and cyl. are not S# marked. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a letter dated February 28th, 1974 signed by all 3 children of Robert E. Bryant that describes his life as a lawman and "Special Ranger" under Captain John R. Hughes. The letter further lists this Winchester carbine and Colt SAA revolver by S# as being carried by Bryant during his years as a peace officer. Additional provenance includes: printed information giving "Jack" Bryant's history as a lawman, numerous copies of El Paso County, TX warrants for arrest and other documents, state of Texas documents, reprints of Texas Rangers photos, as well as a October 15th, 1979 dated loan receipt from the Homer Garrison Museum listing this Winchester carbine and Colt SAA. 3-piece cleaning rod in carbine stock compartment. CONDITION: the Model 1873 carbine retains a small amount of original blue fading to gray/brown showing scattered spots of corrosion and light pitting. Stocks have a heavily worn appearance showing dents and marks. Sound mechanics. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling. The Colt revolver retains traces of an aftermarket applied plated finish in protected areas. Balance of gun has faded to gray and has somewhat weakened markings. Grips show moderate to heavy wear.
