ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 303 Brit. S# 9731. Bbl. 30 1/2". Ladder aperture rear sight graduated to 1200 yds. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Receiver ring is marked “ROSS RIFLE CO. / CANADA / M-10 / PATENTED” & “E”. Numerous view marks. Straight pull bolt w/ multiple locking lugs & flag type safety. Ross rifles were used by Canadian troops in WWI & gained a reputation for jamming in the muddy conditions encountered in trench warfare. The model 10 also was the Ross which could be assembled wrongly, causing it to fire in an unlocked position. Upper band has bayonet lug & stacking swivel. Bottom sling w/ additional swivel on forward end of triggerguard. Single stack mag. & offset stripper clip guides. Unmarked walnut stock set. Buttplate has hinged trap w/ brass cover. Brown leather U.S. sling marked “W. T. & B. CO IN 1918”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 10" blade bayonet marked “ROSS RIFLE CO QUEBEC PATENTED 1907” on the right side of pommel. Left side of pommel has encircled broad arrow, “08” & “8-09”. Bayonet has smooth, walnut grips & early “butcher knife” shaped blade. Metal parts of bayonet turning gray w/ light wear. Blade shows evidence of sharpening. Grips have wear, dents & scratches. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish w/ stained wear. Sm. dents & scratches. Has lg. crack underneath both sides of grip, extending rearward approx. 5". Metal has arsenal rework black finish w/ wear, dents & handling marks. Fair, worn oxidized bore. (21-2487/RW).
