Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 9602e. Bbl. 29". Blade front sight. Lange vizier rear sight graduated to 2000m. Matching numbers on receiver, bbl., trigger guard, stock, rear sight leaf rear band, front sight & bolt handle. Several parts appear to have been renumbered to match by a German depot such as bolt which has two other lined-out numbers. Receiver top has Mauser Oberndorf markings & 1916 date. Top of bbl. collar has crown counterbore marking. Buttplate has lined out "H" & intact "4" Koln depot markings. Firing pin is clipped as-is typical for WW1 bringbacks. Follower, floorplate & cleaning rod all missing. Walnut stock set with Imperial cartouches on right side of butt & multiple stamps on underside of wrist. CONDITION: stock shows several armorer patch repairs most notably above left side of recoil lug, scattered dings, handling marks, scratches, abrasions & stains. Receiver, bolt & buttplate are a dull gray patina with oxidation throughout & some light pitting. Balance of metal retain strong traces of original blue with overall oxidation, some pitting, edge wear & fading to gray. Action is sluggish but functional when hand cycled. Good bore with strong rifling, a counterbore at muzzle, scattered frosting & light pitting. (25-1168/MJC). CURIO. $300-500.
