Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 3317n. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight with protective hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Receiver top has eagle "135" and "byf 44" markings denoting 1944 mfg. by Mauser Oberndorf. Matching numbers on bolt handle, cocking piece, and bolt shroud. Bolt is properly eagle "140" proofed, denoting that it is of FN mfg., a Mauser subcontractor. Other visible parts appear unnumbered, but the bottom metal is marked "byf" in two places. Blued finish. Laminated stock set with cupped buttplate and takedown disc. Left side sling provisions with repro sling. Right side of the butt has a faint Waffenamt that is illegible. Cleaning rod is present. CONDITION: stock set has added dark varnish with a laminate crack at the toe, a couple chips, scattered flaking, dings, and handling marks. Metal retains 40% of its original blue, with scattered fading and light oxidation. Very good-plus, bright bore. (23-5478/MJC). CURIO. $700-1,000.
