RIFLE W/ ERMA CONVERSION KIT. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 2188k. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight w/ hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Receiver top marked "duv 40" denoting 1940 Berliner Lubecker production. Right side of receiver has three eagle "214" Waffenamts. Several markings have added white highlight paint. Matching numbers on bbl., rear sight parts, bolt release, both bands & trigger guard. Handguard number appears to match w/ an overstamped "1". Bolt parts appear renumbered to match & they bear eagle "26" Waffenamts. Floorplate, action screws, buttplate, follower & buttplate are unnumbered. Blued finish. Laminated stock set w/ left side sling provisions & K98k style sling. Right side of butt has two faint Waffenamts & an eagle "M" Kriegsmarine marking. Stock has added recoil crossbolt behind bolt cutout. Cleaning rod present. This rifle is pictured on pg. 152 of Richard Law's book "Backbone of the Wehrmacht". The book states this rifle was brought back by a vet who found it w/ the 22 conversion kit matching numbered to the gun. The book further states this rifle was found at the Kriegsmarine Uboat pens in Lorient, France. MAGS: 1-5 rd. Erma 22 LR detachable. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Erma EL24 conversion unit numbered "2710b" w/ matching numbers. Rear of conversion unit & right side of bolt both have added "2188" number that matches rifle. Bore of conversion unit is bright & very good. Also included are a black aftermarket hardcase, wooden case for Erma conversion unit & copies of the pgs. of Backbone of the Wehrmacht where this rifle was pictured. CONDITION: stock set appears lightly sanded w/ a couple gouges around both recoil lugs, a few small laminate cracks, a couple small chips, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal retains 40% blue w/ overall fading to gray & some oxidation. Worn pitted bore. (23-7606 & 23-7607). CURIO. $4000-6000.
