MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# B7734. Bbl. 22". The Johnson rifle was tested and not at first adopted by the US military but a large number were contracted for by the Dutch for use in the far east. A small number were shipped to the Dutch from the factory in Rhode Island but most were purchased by the US government with a few being used by the Marine Corps. The receiver is marked on the right rear with the inverted triangle around "CRANSTON ARMS CO." and the small "star" Dutch acceptance mark. The receiver is marked on top with the standard "MODEL OF 1941" and patent dates. The serial numbers do not match as they were assembled at random when manufactured. Adjustable aperture rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. Blade front sight with protective ears. Replacement barrel is completely unmarked. The replacement two piece walnut stock set has the early construction without the glued joints. CONDITION: This nicely restored rifle has an unissued appearance with only very tiny scattered handling marks. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. (25-2221/RW). CURIO. $3,000-4,000.
