Cal. 7.7 Jap. S# 27159. Bbl. 25 7/8. Early Type 99 sights with AA wings on rear sight. Bayonet lug is unnumbered & chrome faced bolt is numbered differently than receiver possibly an assembly number. Receiver top has ground mum & Type 99 markings. Left side of receiver has 30th series & Toyo Kogyo markings with serial. Blued finish. Asian hardwood stock with left side sling swivels & original sling. Underside of stock has clear Kanji inspection stamps. Cleaning rod & monopod present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: old Japanese cloth & copy of USMC Marine Corps souvenir bringback paperwork. The paper lists Leonard Hanks Private of the Sixth Marine Division as bringing back one "31 Cal Jap Rifle" back along with a saber. This rifle was consigned by Mr. Hank's family. The 6th Marine division fought at Okinawa most notably taking part in Sugar Loaf & Naha. CONDITION: stock shows a high degree of Urushi finish with a few gouges, a 5" crack on handguard, scattered dings & handling marks. Metal retains 90% original blue with scattered thinning, edge wear & light oxidation. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bright near excellent bore. (25-4946/MJC). CURIO. $700-1000.
