U.S. ARMY DA REVOLVER. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 18971. This early issue revolver is stamped on butt of grips "C. 305 / M.G. BN. / 4"; Company C of 4th Machine Gun Battalion of the 2nd Division of the A.E.F. This unit organized in Oct. 1917, arrived in France Jan. 1917. This unit saw action in Aisne-Marne defensive including Chateau-Thierry & Belleau Wood (July 1918), Aisne-Marne Offensive (July 1918), St. Mihiel Offensive (Sept. 1918), Meuse Argonne Offensive (Oct. 1918 & Nov. 1918) through the March to the Rhine. While this gun has seen combat through World War I, how this gun was treated after the war is unknown; showing areas of a older factory reblue finish & wear on barrel & top strap typically seen from holster friction. Matching numbered 6" barrel, 6 shot fluted cylinder, & extractor. Dished two piece walnut grips. CONDITION: barrel & frame shows areas of factory style reblue finish with large areas of wear & mixing of brown patina on sides of barrel, top strap & grip straps. Scattered spots of pinprick oxidation throughout along with blood pitting on front of front sight blue. Good grip finish showing marks & dings. Good bore with strong rifling & light pitting.
