LIEUTENANT’S UNIFORM. A very interesting & scarce WWI aviator’s uniform in gray wool. There are 6 buttons down each side of the double breasted coat. The front flaps, cuffs & collar are all piped in red. There are 2 sets of loops at the left breast for 2 award badges. The shoulder boards are multiple rows of silver bullion with interspersed blue threads. Attached to each shoulder board is a winged propeller & “14” indicating the 14th Aero Squadron. The collar is bordered by a silver bullion & blue checked stripe. Collar tabs are white with a single gilded button at the top. A ribbon for the WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class & the Bavarian Military Merit Cross are mounted in the 2nd button hole from the top. The body of the coat is lined with putty colored polished cotton & the sleeves are lined with gray striped white cotton. A seldom seen aviation officer’s uniform from WWI. CONDITION: uniform is quite solid with some noticeable moth damage particularly near the left shoulder. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-16012-1/BF). $800-1,200.
