During WWI, Germany was in demand for bayonets of the standard 1898/05 specifications. Local workshops were tasked w/ filling demand. The "Sawback" bayonet were issued to machine gun & pioneer troopers to clear obstructions. Overall: 19". The 14 1/4" fullered blade has a 10 1/2" section of "sawback" spine. Crossguard has "C" shaped muzzle clasp & slight curve. Metal grip w/ grooves, black & red paint. Metal scabbard w/ black & red paint. CONDITION: Good overall w/ flaking finish on scabbard & grip mixing w/ brown patina & light pitting. Patina on most metal bare metal parts w/ marks. (02-16387-2/MD). $300-500.
