MACHINE GUNNER’S CHEST PLATE.
1) HELMET. An M1916/17 German helmet w/ a heavily oxidized finish & partial liner. No chinstrap. CONDITION: as stated, the helmet has the remains of a painted finish but is heavily oxidized throughout. Most of the liner remains but is in well worn condition.
2) STIRNPANZER. A sniper’s brow shield worn w/ the M1916/17 or the M1918 German steel helmet. Heavy iron plate has much of the original finish remaining. No attachment strap. CONDITION: there is oxidation to the finish but no damage to the stirnpanzer.
3) CHEST PLATE. A WWI German machine gunner’s chest plate. There are partial interior attachment straps that were used in securing the 2 smaller bottom plates that are no longer present. Plate was used to protect machine gunners from enemy small arms fire. CONDITION: plate generally has an oxidized finish but remains solid. (02-16549/BF). $400-700.
