STORAGE CASE. A very attractive WWI officers spike helmet worn by a Bavarian infantry officer. The helmet has black leather body with a gilded trim consisting of a tall fluted spike attached to a quatrefoil base secured by three 8 pointed star attachments. Other components consist of the rear spine, scale chinstrap and round side posts that secure officer grade Bavarian and national kokarden. The gilded front plate is of superb detail and the front visor trim is complete. The interior of the front visor is green and the rear is red. Wide brown leather sweatband and a brown grosgrain like lining. This fine helmet comes complete with its original field green colored cotton cover for wear during battle. The black truncated cone shaped case is solid but has no attachment straps remaining. CONDITION: helmet shows very light wear with no notable issues. The case has scrapes and scuffs but remains solid. As noted, the case is missing all straps. (02-24858/BF). $2,000-4,000.
