MACGREGOR OF THE 302nd MACHINE GUN BATTALION. This wonderful group includes the hat, overcoat, uniform, & pants for Lieutenant MacGregor. The uniform has silver bullion Lieutenants bars on the shoulder straps, & the collar has “U.S.” insignia, along with crossed rifles flanked by an “M” & “G” with “302” above on each side. The left sleeve has a bullion 41st Division patch at the shoulder w/ a red chevron below. On the lower sleeve is a single bullion chevron. The Officer's overcoat is typical double-breasted, heavy, field green wool. The hat is a standard WWI Officer's cap w/ a subdued eagle at the front. This large lot also contains 4 pairs of period leather short boots or shoes, 3 pairs of high boots, both slip-on & lace-up, & one pair of leather puttees. Adding to the interest of the lot is MacGregor's swagger stick, a canteen w/ cover, an equipment pouch, military issue pamphlets on infantry & machine gun tactics, a toiletry kit, a meat can, a collapsible horse's feedbag, clip pouch, extra canteen cover, an M1904 dispatch pouch, 2 partial gas masks, a gas mask carrier, heavy canvas pants, a small backpack, a mess kit, M1904 spurs, leg wraps, a small lantern, a folding stove or lantern, a pistol belt w/ a russet leather 45 Cal. automatic holster, a boot pole, & a tin of saddle soap. CONDITION: the uniforms are in fine condition & display beautifully. The hat has a broken chinstrap & mildew on the sweatband. The boots & shoes are quite rough but generally complete. Other items show moderate wear but suffer from the effects of poor storage. (02-19933/BF). $500-800.
