CARBINE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 8596n. S# matches on receiver, buttstock, trigger guard, floorplate, bbl. bands plus front & rear sight parts. Turned down bolt handle w/ checkered knob has had S# removed from top of handle. Bbl. 23 5/8". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000m. Inverted V front sight. Sight base has protected ears. This interesting rifle is marked on right side of buttstock w/ hammer & sickle enclosed in a 5 pointed star as used by Yugoslav partisans under Tito. Receiver ring is marked on top w/ "Cyrillic numerals, Imperial German crown & ERFURT 1918". Right side of receiver ring has imperial proofs & left side of ring has eagle acceptance mark. Left receiver rail marked "Kar98." Stacking bar & bayonet bar are present. Non matching walnut stock set. Stock has grasping grooves & steel takedown hole. Buttstock has prominent "122076" on left side near buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has well worn original finish w/ added finish & extensive wear, staining & handling marks commensurate w/ hard service. Forend inletting does not fit closely to rear of stacking bar & has sm. missing splinter on forward left side. Forend stock has approx. 3 1/2" crack on right side extending through the rear of grasping groove & under recoil bolt retaining nut toward mag. area. Metal has traces of blue turning overall gray & patina w/ wear & scattered fine pitting. Safety will not engaged when rifle is cocked. Fair worn bore turning dark in grooves. (23-33/RW).
