1) UNIFORM. A WWI Saxon Infantry uniform of sage green wool with a gray collar. The double-breasted uniform is piped in white, as is the collar. There are 6 Imperial crown buttons on each side and one at each side of the top. The cuffs, pocket flaps & tails also have similar buttons. The collar has a large Saxon crest button on either side. The shoulder straps are attached with brass buttons bearing the number “1”. The red sewn insignia on the shoulder straps appears to be a crown script “FI”. The uniform is equipped with a brown leather belt featuring a brass frame buckle all connected to a Y-strap support system. The belt has 2 Mauser 3-pocket K98 cartridge pouches. CONDITION: uniform is a bit soiled, particularly on the piping. There is very minor scattered moth damage. 2) HAT. A WWI Saxon visor cap with a sage green crown piped in white and a white band. The crown has a national cockade and the band has a Saxon green & white cockade. The visor is field green with a tan underside. Brown coated cotton sweatband with gold liner & yellow crown liner. CONDITION: hat is a bit soiled and has very minor moth damage. 3) OVERCOAT. An Imperial German gray enlisted overcoat with 6 Imperial crown buttons down the front and 2 at each shoulder strap. The gray shoulder straps appear to have a red felt crown over a red felt “O”. The overcoat has a brown leather belt with a scarce Wurttemberg buckle featuring central arms encircled by the words “FURCHTLOS UND TREW”. CONDITION: coat shows light wear overall. Belt & buckle show light to moderate wear. 4) HAT. A gray-green Imperial German feldmutze with a red band & piping. The red band is covered with a white cotton tape with a sizing buckle in the rear. The crown has a national colors cockade and the band has a Wurttemberg cockade. The interior has numerous stamps and a label that reads “Einjahrig-Freiwillinger Barth 4.Kompagnie Gren.-Regt. ,,Konigin Olga” (1. Wurtt. ) Nr. 119.” CONDITION: hat shows some moth damage and soiling. The interior has notable sweat stains. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18906/BF). $1,500-2,000.
