This is quite a rare example of a true Saxon M1915 Guard Reiter, all steel, lobstertail helmet. Helmet has a plated steel body with a 4-rivet, elliptical spike base. The upper part of the spike is missing. There is a raised ridge behind the spike base, indicating this is a true Saxon Guard Reiter helmet. The steel front plate displays the classic Saxon crowned crest in a starburst design. There are no kokarden, and there is no chinstrap. The interior shows an enlisted type brown leather, tongued liner. CONDITION: the helmet body is quite solid and shows some areas of darker oxidation. The front plate is complete and undamaged. As stated, the top of the spike, kokarden, and chinstrap are missing. The liner shows wear with a few losses and some tears. As can be seen in the photographs, this helmet presents very well and, with a little restoration, could be the centerpiece of a collection. (02-23070-1/BF). $1,200-1,800.
