PULL BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 303 British. S# 5060. Bbl. 28". Receiver marked on left rail "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC. CANADA. 1905. / PATENTED". This rifle has seen service by Canada as a combat rifle & by the U.S. as a training rifle. The right side of the buttstock is marked w/ a number of Canadian unit markings plus the letters "CEF". There is a faint circular marking partially legible which has "DC" & "broad arrow" surrounded by "QUEBEC". There is an additional yellow-painted marking "65 N.Y. B 60" indicating US National Guard service. There is additionally under the grip the "U.S. / flaming bomb / S# / L116". Rifle has the Harris mag. follower. Fully adj. Sutherland aperture rear sight graduated to 2200 yards. Blade front sight w/ protective hood. Straight pull bolt w/ sliding safety. 3 bottom swivels. Stacking swivel & bayonet lug are present. Walnut stock set. Buttplate w/ sliding trap. CONDITION: stock set has worn original finish w/ dents, scratches & handling marks throughout & series of marks on both sides of butt, likely from rifle being clamped in vice. Metal has 50% original blue turning gray w/ wear & handling marks. Bore has strong lands w/ lightly frosted grooves. (24-5036/RW). CURIO. $400-600.
