This WWI US Army camp telephone measures approximately 9 3/4" by 5" by 7 1/2". The internal components are housed in a dovetailed oak box with an iron top and bottom. The interior of the top lid has paper connection instructions within a metal frame. The exterior of the lid has a brass plaque that reads "CAMP TELEPHONE MODEL A SIGNAL CORPS U S ARMY ORDER NO 8936 JULY 21 1917". A brass, painted aluminum and composite handset hangs off the front of the case. A braided cord connects the handset to the interior. CONDITION: the telephone appears to show light wear throughout. The hand crank on the side functions well and the entire apparatus seems to work but has not been tested with another machine. (02-24288/BF.) $200-400.
