1) A Prussian WWI spike helmet with gray metal trim. The side posts, visor trim, and rear spine have the original gray metal finish. However, the spike and the eagle appear to have been painted field green at some point in the life of the helmet. The 9-tongue brown leather liner is intact, and the interior has a few markings, including a size "56" stamp. No chinstrap. CONDITION: helmet has been a bit crushed from the sides and shows the effects of heat damage, possibly from an attic. The eagle has a tiny break on the scepter, but all pieces are present. There are remnants of a tag on the front visor that probably gave details of capture at one time. 2) This M1935 single-decal Luftwaffe helmet appears to have its original finish, but the outside has been coated with what seems to be lacquer. There is a single Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left. The interior rear is stamped "321," and the interior left is stamped "ET66." Eight-tongue leather liner with leather chinstrap. CONDITION: as stated, the exterior has been lacquered, and the finish underneath appears to be about 70%. The decal is approx. 60%. The interior of the helmet shows oxidation throughout. The original liner is dry but complete. The chinstrap is also dry but only missing the extreme tip of the adjustment strap. (02-23378-2/BF). $400-550.
