Overall length: 34 1/2". Blade length: 22 7/8". This sword features an early blade w/ an irregular hamon. The brass habaki has traces of silver plating. The nakago has a single mekugi-ana. The blade is unsigned but is very well made. The tsuba is heavy brass w/ silver plates above & below decorated in a foliate motif. There is 1 seppa below & 1 above the tsuba. The tsuka has matching fuchi, menuki & kabuto-gane that in turn match the silver plates above & below the tsuba. The tsuka-ito is black over what appears to be black same. The saya has a military style leather cover over what appears to be black lacquered wood. There is a cloth tag attached to the semegane w/ Japanese characters that likely denotes the owner’s name & station when the sword was surrendered. CONDITION: blade has a nice polish w/ no nicks or delamination. There is some discoloration to scattered areas on the blade that should be removed. (02-15670/BF). $600-900.
