JACKET BELONGING TO 1st LT. JETHRO MOCK. This intriguing lot consists of a brown leather A-2 flight jacket with navigator wings painted on the front above a ribbon with the nickname “JETT” written upon it all over a yellow, black, & white squadron insignia. The insignia consists of a winged skull and a ribbon that reads “KIAI O KALEWA”. The jacket is attractively mounted in a shadow box frame that measures 36” x 31 1/2". Also mounted in the shadow box is a piece of aluminum fuselage from his plane, the “CISCO KID”. There is also a period photograph of his crew standing in front of the plane with nose art that reads “THE CISCO KID” together with a caricature of a Mexican man in a sombrero riding a bomb. At the top of the frame is a rare pin-on insignia showing a winged skull with the motto below “KIAI O KALEWA”. A brass plaque on the left side reads “CISCO KID B-24 LIBERATOR 13th AIR FORCE 1943”. The plaque on the right reads “JETHRO ‘JETT’ WOODMAN MOCK NAVIGATOR 1st LIEUTENANT APRIL 10, 1916 – DECEMBER 28, 1967”. Also included in this lot is an ID bracelet with silver pilot wings on the front that reads “U.S. ARMY AIR CORPS” & “JETHRO W. MOCK”. The back of the bracelet is engraved “SOLO DEC. 4. 1941 14053283”. The base of the reverse is stamped “__-10k.STLGSHIELD BBMHCo”. Accompanying the lot are two framed maps that were found by the family in the pockets of the flight jacket. One map reads, in part, “FLIGHT CHART 955-5B CONFIDENTIAL GUADALCANAL TO NEW BRITAIN”. The second map reads, in part, “SECTION OF BISMARK ARCHIPELAGO”. Both maps were prepared by the 955th ENGR. TOPO. CO. An exceptionally historic group tied to a navigator in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. CONDITION: jacket shows wear but no significant damage. Photograph is sharp. Squadron pin is undamaged. Bracelet is a bit tarnished but solid. Maps are lightly discolored but remain quite vivid. (02-20605/BF). $3,500-5,000.
