RIFLE. These training rifles resemble the British Swift Trainer. Approx. 250 were produced. The rifle uses a needle at the muzzle which is not present in this example. The rifle is cocked by the manipulation of the bolt & when fired the needle penetrates the paper target. The buttplate is made to be squeezed by the shoulder to prevent accidental discharge. Fixed aperture rear sight. The sight ears are located midway along the bbl. to give a correct sight picture. The receiver is marked on the right side "LONG BRANCH TRAINING RIFLE" / "1943". Hardwood stock set. Forend is marked "0L1855". Wooden simulated mag. Sling swivels are not present. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining & handling marks w/ notable discoloration on left side of forend. Metal retains 75% original blue w/ extensive light oxidation. Firing mechanism is not functional. (02-22470/RW). $100-200.
