A superb example of a rare 1st Class Danzig Cross of 2 piece gilded bronze & white enamel construction. The reverse has a wide pin of T-bar style & is marked at the base, “Hulse Berlin”. A scant 88 First Class Danzig Crosses were awarded making this one of the scarcest of all WWII German awards. The Danzig Cross was instituted on August 31, 1939 & was issued in 2 grades by the Gauleiter of Danzig, Albert Forster. The Cross was awarded both in Danzig itself & the entire German Reich for service to the Party in the Free City of Danzig prior to its annexation by Germany on Sept. 1, 1939. CONDITION: cross shows general light wear from use. There is the tiniest, minute flake to the white enamel on the right arm of the cross. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-15976-3/BF). $2,500-3,000.
