. A very fine example of a WWII German Allgemeine SS enlisted man’s visor cap. The hat features a fine black wool body with an equally fine black wool band. All of the piping is white. The death’s head skull is silver plated & the SS eagle has a similar silver plated finish. Leather chinstrap with 2 black enamel buckles & a central connective rectangular ring. Side buttons have a black enameled finish. Black visor with dark orange underside stamped with an RZM & SS mark. Dull brown/orange sweatband with a silk tie in the rear. Dull orange, cotton side lining with the crown lining being a coated orange fabric with a triangular sweatshield. The size “54” & SS runes in a lg. circle are gold embossed under the sweatshield. CONDITION: overall the cap is in very fine condition showing a few moth nips primarily on the white piping. The piping is bright & unstained. The plating on the skull shows minor wear & the plating on the eagle is nearly complete. Chinstrap is strong. The visor has overall minute crazing on the top & minor loss of finish on the underside. Sweatband shows light wear. Lining shows light overall wear. Sweatshield is intact & interior markings are clear. (02-16647-3/BF). $3,000-5,000.
