Overall length: 14 11/16”. Blade is etched “Meine Ehre Heisst Treue”, and the reverse is marked “E.P. & S. (logo) SOLINGEN”. Nickel silver crossguard with an “I” stamped on the reverse denoting group 1. Black wooden grip with black enameled SS button at the top and eagle inset in the grip. Nickel silver top guard & nut. Scabbard has nickel silver mounts with a black painted finish. Plated correct SS chain with the first top link marked “SS” on the reverse. This interesting dagger started life as a M1933 belonging to an enlisted man. He was likely promoted at a later date to 2nd Lieutenant and took his M1933 dagger and bought the chained scabbard of a M1936 dagger. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. CONDITION: the blade is undamaged but appears to have been buffed to remove staining & light pitting. Crossguard & top guard show light wear. Grip has several tiny shallow dents and there is minor losses to the enameled button. Scabbard shows uniform light wear with some loss of finish to the scabbard body. Chain links have a dark tarnished patina. The wonderful thing about this dagger is that, despite being an upgraded M1933, the wear to the dagger & scabbard is the same, indicating this was done during its useful life in service of The Fuhrer. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18260/BF). $3,000-4,000.
