This fine German WWII period Forestry Service dagger or cutlass measures 18 1/2" overall with an etched 13 3/4" blade marked " P. D. L." in a dotted oval for Peter Daniel Luneschloss of Solingen. The blade is etched with scroll and foliate motifs along with trees and game animals. Gilded brass hilt with a slightly down turned scallop shell guard and a hoof quillon. Gilded brass knuckle bow. Horn grip with 3 oak leaf & acorn studs on each side (1 missing on the back). Gilded brass mounted black leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade is near mint with slight scabbard wear. Hilt shows light wear and retains most of its gilded finish. Scabbard mounts retain traces of gilded finish. (02-24923/BF). NON-GUN. $700-1,200.
