Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 4472. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight with protective hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Matching numbers on bbl., bolt handle, cocking piece, and bolt shroud. Underside of bolt handle also marked with two eagle "63" inspection stamps. Other visible parts are unnumbered. Receiver top marked "dot 1944," denoting mfg. in German-occupied Czechoslovakia in 1944. Receiver markings and bbl. serial have added white highlight paint. Blued finish. Laminated stock with left side sling provisions and repro sling. Underside of the butt and top of the handguard are marked "dot". The butt has a distinct "chatter," and the buttplate has a poor fit at the toe. CONDITION: stock set shows the beginnings of a laminate crack behind the upper tang, some dings, and handling marks. Metal retains 85% original blue with a couple small spots of light pitting on bottom metal, scattered fading, and edge wear. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Bright, near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5228/MJC). CURIO. $600-900.
