LIKELY FOR A FOREIGN FIGHTER. A fine example of a German M1940 helmet with dark green and dark brown camouflage paint of the period. The right side of the helmet is painted with a red and white quartered shield that is also, obviously, of the period. The left side of the helmet shows a white painted static party symbol. The interior rear of the helmet is stamped "9240" and the interior left is stamped "SE64". There are partially visible painted faded red letters on the rear brim that appear to read "O.Gefr. A_g___". There is no liner remaining and only a partial chinstrap. The band and felt covering remain intact. We were unable to identify the insignia on this helmet. We feel both the insignia and the camouflage paint are absolutely correct and of the period. A rare helmet perfect for the advanced collector. CONDITION: painted finish is about 90%. Only the ends of the chinstrap remain. Interior shows some oxidation, particularly at the crown. (02-23645/BF) $1,000-3,000.
