OVERPAINT. An interesting M1940 helmet, which clearly has a Kriegsmarine eagle on the left side but does not appear to have a decal on the right side. The whole helmet has been overpainted in a tropical tan color with vestiges of the gold Kriegsmarine eagle visible through the paint. The interior left of the helmet is stamped “ET66”, and the interior rear is stamped “236”. The name “Klert” is painted in white at the rear of the helmet. Brown leather liner stamped size “58”. The liner is marked “N36150 43D Schindler”. Leather chinstrap. CONDITION: the tan painted finish is approx. 92%. Liner shows light to moderate wear, as does the chinstrap. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18275/BF). $800-1,400.
