MILITARY RIFLE W/BRITISH CAPTURE MARK. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 9227c. All visible numbers match. Bbl. 23 5/8". This is a nice example of early Mauser 98K rifle produced in 1937 w/ droopwing eagle inspection marks & British "AA" over broad arrow capture mark. The rifle has seen considerable service yet retains much of its original finish & has crisp markings in wood & metal. Receiver ring is marked on top "S/42" "1936". Right side of receiver ring has 3 droopwing "63" inspection marks. Left side of receiver ring & bbl. has droopwing proofs. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Sight base not milled for hood. Bayonet bar & cleaning rod are present. All milled furniture bans are retained by single spring. Lower band has "WaA 53" inspection mark. Steel disassembly hole, flat type buttplate. German leather sling. Walnut stock set marked on right side of butt w/ 3 droopwing eagles, 2 of which are numbered "63". Also has "AA" over broad arrow capture mark. Bottom of stock has droopwing eagle "63" & "K" indicating that the stock was mfg. for the new shorter rifle. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unmarked stamped blued steel muzzle cover & sight protector. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, light staining & handling marks throughout. Metal has 70% original thinning blue w/ light wear & handling marks. Near excellent shiny bore. (22-657/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
