A fine example of a WWII German Orts level political leader’s visor cap. The crown is tan cotton with a brown velvet band. The entire cap is piped in blue, indicating an Orts level leader. The crown has a gold political eagle on the front, and the band has a faux bullion metal oak leaf wreath with a red & black enamel cockade in the center. Gold bullion chinstrap terminated by pebbled finished gold buttons. Brown visor with lighter brown underside. Brown sweatband. Gold/yellow silk liner with diamond sweat shield embossed with an early political eagle. Family history states that the hat was brought back during WWII by Walter Durant of the 8th Infantry. CONDITION: hat has a few moth nips in the crown. Hat is structurally sound and displays quite well. (02-20951/BF). $700-1,000.
