SALAD FORK FROM JOACHIM VON RIBBENTROP’S PERSONAL FORMAL SILVER DINNER SERVICE.
These 2 forks and spoon belonged to Joachim von Ribbentrop, the Reichs Minister of Foreign Affairs for Germany during WWII. He had a long career as a German politician & diplomat. Ribbentrop was a close friend and confidant of Adolf Hitler. He was executed by the allies as a war criminal after the Nuremberg trials. This silver flatware was part of his personal service used at home for formal entertaining and likely for diplomatic functions. The silver was made by Korner & Proll of Berlin. The 4-tined dinner fork measures 8 1/8”, the salad fork measures 7 1/8” and the table spoon measures 7 3/16”. All pieces have a relatively plain handle with an incised border and feature a diplomatic eagle atop a wreath surrounding a party symbol. The reverse of the table spoon and salad fork are marked “(crescent moon) (crown) 925 (winged wheel)” and the dinner fork is marked “(crescent moon) (crown) 925 (circle)”. This silver was recovered at Ribbentrop’s personal estate by Colonel R.H. Hagelin of the 30th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division. They were purchased from Hagelin by Frank Gish who supplies documentation of provenance. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of notarized letters from R. Hagelin and F. Gish, along with related informational material. CONDITION: the 3 pieces of flatware show light overall wear with a lightly tarnished patina. (02-19034-11/BF). $1,200-1,500.
