1) BINOCULARS. A fine, large pair of WWII Japanese binoculars in black with a textured covering over the barrels. One side reads "7x7 10’" with a Japanese symbol. The other side reads "SKK NO 363" with Japanese characters. Binoculars have their original cotton carrying strap and are housed in a light blue painted canvas case with numerous Japanese characters in white paint on the front and the name "Vincent, F" in black on the lid. The case has two lens covers in the top and is accompanied by a note that reads "Fay R. Vincent 4th Marines Division Iwo Jima taken from a dead Japan-ese soldier". CONDITION: binoculars appear operable. There are losses to the textured covering on the barrels. The case shows wear but is quite solid. 2) PRAYER FLAG. A large Japanese Hinomaru-style prayer flag measuring approx. 40" x 27". This flag is absolutely covered with Japanese characters. The flag came from the same estate as the binoculars and may have been captured at Iwo Jima. A translation of the many inscriptions may provide insight into the flag’s origin. CONDITION: flag has staining and is a bit yellow with an 8" tear at the top. 3) PRAYER FLAG. A Japanese Hinomaru-style prayer flag measuring approx. 24" x 21 1/2". There are several inscriptions scattered around the flag. CONDITION: flag shows light wear overall. 4) FLAG. A Japanese Hinomaru-style flag measuring approx. 39" x 28". CONDITION: flag shows a few minor stains and is substantially quite solid. (02-23294-2/BF). $600-900.
