ACTION CARBINE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 509. S#s match on receiver, bolt, nose cap and floorplate latch. Bbl. 19". Very nice original example of a 44 Type carbine with partially removed "Mum" leaving the Type 44 characters intact. Receiver is marked on left side with Nagoya Arsenal circles. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. Inverted V front sight with protective ears. Bolt assembly is in the white. Bolt handle has oval knob. Small tang safety knob. Late type nose cap with 14 3/4" blade folding bayonet. Stacking hook is present. Rear mounting screw bosses show evidence of hand fitting. Hardwood stock set with 2 piece buttstock construction. Buttplate has rotating trap. Buttstock shows inspectors mark at bottom of grip and at belly. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: jointed cleaning rod in butt trap. CONDITION: entire carbine retains most of its original finish excepting the partial removal of the "Mum". Notable straw coloration on bolt stock spring, trigger, mag. catch and rear sight parts. Buttplate has light wear and thinning. Bore has appearance of light wear turning dark in grooves. PROVANANCE: the Collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5920/RW). CURIO. $500-900.
