MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 JAP. S# 70022. Bbl. 31". Receiver has crisp intact 'mum and type 38 markings. Left receiver rail carries Kokura Arsenal "interlocking circles". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,400 meters. Inverted "V" front sight with protective ears. Replacement bolt with serial numbers matching on bolt handle and small notch safety knob. Extractor is not numbered. 29 3/8" cleaning rod is present. Hardwood stock set. Buttstock has the typical two-piece construction. Late production rubberized canvas sling with Japanese characters inside marked in white. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bayonet with fullered 15 5/8" blade. 20 1/8" overall. Bayonet has straight crossguard and smooth hardwood grips. Right ricasso has the Kokura Arsenal "interlocking circles". Blued steel scabbard. Bayonet and scabbard retain much of their original finish with light wear. Bayonet has been sharpened. CONDITION: stock set has added finish over the well-worn original finish with numerous handling marks throughout. Metal retains 80% of its original blue finish with light wear. Straw coloration is present on rear sight spring, trigger and magazine catch. Bore is shiny, but with worn lands. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH.
