RIFLE. Cal. 7.7 Jap. S# 53308. Bbl. 25 1/2". Blade front sight with protective ears. Aperture rear sight graduated to 1500m without AA wing provisions. "Transitional" Type 99 short with a mix of features. Firing pin is mismatched, but other parts are matched to the receiver. Receiver top has neatly removed mum and Type 99 markings. Left side of receiver has serial number, 24th series, and Kokura markings. Blued finish. Rear sight base and rear band are missing screws. Asian hardwood stock set with left side sling swivels and square recoil lug. Both sides of the wrist have distinctive "chatter," as is correct for Kokura rifles of this series. Left side of the stock has two added holes, likely for a plaque or display. CONDITION: stock set shows scattered dings and handling wear. Metal shows a mix of original blue, with the reblue mostly on the receiver, some brown streaks on rear of bbl., pitting on bottom metal, scattered fading, and some oxidation. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Very good bore. (24-5183/MJC). CURIO. $300-400.
