TRAINING RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 Jap (blank). S# E441. S#s match on receiver, bolt and bayonet lug. Bbl. 30 3/8". Barrel made without rifling. Receiver is marked on top with a Japanese character inside what appears to be a flower petal as shown in figure11 page 174 of Military Rifles of Japan by Honeycutt. Receiver is marked on left side with "T". The receiver is manufactured as a single shot using a cylindrical bolt with a rotating extractor. The trigger guard is fabricated in one piece. The workmanship on this rifle is of a higher order than most training rifles. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400 meters. Inverted V front sight. Bolt has oval knob and deeply checkered large tang safety knob. Cleaning rod is not present. Upper band fitted with bayonet lug. Bottom swivels. Hardwood stock set. Right side of butt is marked with boxed Japanese characters. Left side of butt has 3 unboxed characters. Receiver and trigger guard made with integral tangs. CONDITION: rifle has moderate wear and scattered handling marks with original finish. Metal has 60% blue turning patina with light wear. Dark oxidized bore.
