Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 56924. Bbl. 19". Blade front sight with protective ears. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2000m. Scarce second variant Type 44 carbine made by Kokura with folding spike bayonet. Receiver top has Type 44 markings and ground mum. Receiver markings have added white highlight paint. Matching serial numbers on bolt, safety, bayonet housing, and floorplate. Matching assembly numbers on extractor and bolt latch. Rear sight assembly numbers match themselves, as is typical. Dust cover appears to be unnumbered and reblued. Blued finish with small, strawed parts. Asian hardwood stock set with two-piece butt and left side sling swivels. Underside of butt has strong Kanji markings. CONDITION: stock set retains a high degree of original Urushi finish with scattered dings and handling wear. Metal retains 85% original blue with scattered edge wear, fading, and light oxidation. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Very good, bright bore. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5240/MJC). CURIO. $500-900.
