& BAYONET. This 1942 dated Cossack saber was utilized by the Cossack cavalry men who traditionally wore the saber on their back while mounted on horseback. The Cossack were banned from serving in the military during Bolshevik communist control. The Cossacks were reintroduced into the military in 1936 and fought in WWII. The 31 1/2" blade is marked with the 1942 mfg date, a partially legible makers mark and a M inspection proof. The guard and scabbard also carry the M proof. The grip is made of carved ribbed walnut. The leather washer is present, but partially damaged. The scabbard is made of a rubberized canvas over wood with brass fittings and an M91/30 bayonet. CONDITION: overall very good. The blade is in very nice shape with a good edge and some mild surface patches of old oxidation. The guard and pommel some minor handling marks. The grip finish is thinning on the high edges. The scabbard has some flaking rubberized coating with mild fraying. (02-25615/ZAL). NON-GUN. $400-600.
