SEMI-AUTOMATIC SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 GA, 2 3/4". S# X45567. Bbl. 27 1/2". A5 Sweet Sixteen semi-automatic shotgun mfg. in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale and imported by Browning Arms Company, circa. 1950. Left side of the bbl. is marked "BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS MO" above a "*" (indicating Full choke) and the cal. designation, followed by a series of Belgian commercial proofs, with "MADE IN BELGIUM" marked on the right. Sides of receiver feature standard engraving consisting of wavy line borders and sections of foliate scrollwork, with scrollwork extending to the upper receiver tang and underside of the trigger guard bow. Left side of the receiver is additionally engraved "Sweet Sixteen" above the Browning trademark logo, and a portrait of John Moses Browning. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bolt assembly, which is polished in-the-white. Trigger and sliding safety are strawed. Checkered and finger grooved wood forearm and rnd. knob buttstock with FN horn buttplate. Top of the bbl. features 2 matte strips terminating in an aluminum bead front sight. Bbl. matches the receiver via the full S# on the side of the bbl. ring, with a screw on each side of the receiver matching via "5567". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina (most notably on the top of the receiver and bbl., as well as on the underside of the receiver around the loading gate area), scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of age related discoloration. Mirror bore, exhibiting some areas of apparent hardened firing residue. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with wear and flaking to the finish present overall. (26-1745/MLW). CURIO. $350-550.
