Cal. 69. S# NSN. Bbl. 40.5”. Belgium made model 1857 French pattern that shot large rifled projectiles, the French triangle base minié ball often excavated in Confederate areas would be proper ammunition. These were published in early texts as being made or sold by Tanner of Bastrop, Texas, but there is no connection. Regardless, these import muskets among the tens of thousands scoured up by Confederate agents in early war buying all European obsolete longarms available. Standard configuration, iron mounted, backaction lock marked “TANNER & CIE / LIEGE”. CONDITION: fair overall, missing rear sight, ramrod & rear sling swivel. Stock broken at wrist with poor old repair. Mechanics works, will cock & fire, dark rifled bore. (01-22949/JS). ANTIQUE. $700-900.
