ORIGINAL SCABBARD. 31" Blade w/ Tilton characteristic thin flat edge above unstopped fuller, lg. solid cast hilt w/ no piercings or decoration, 6" grip, & this is only the second example I have seen w/ original scabbard which has distinct sm. heavy sword rings. Martin, Carrol & Co. did not have government contracts but are well known in literature to have made swords & repaired guns at their "armory". This sword is best "attic condition" example I have seen w/ fine dark untouched patina. CONDITION: very good overall, blade retains some luster white/gray w/ staining, especially dark where protrudes through partial drag. Hilt & scabbard mount have heavy mottled very dark patina. Grip is missing wire but leather is intact retaining most of its original polish w/ chipping. (02-17364/JS). $6,000-8,000.
